Got it!
Accounts associated with a small business tax ID number are not covered by our identity theft protection plans; however, small business bank accounts that use your personal tax ID number are covered.
While we provide a comprehensive approach to identity theft protection for our members, no identity theft protection service can prevent all instances of identity theft. Data breaches and the internet make information more accessible than ever which is why it is so important to have a plan that offers fully managed recovery services and a $1 million stolen funds and reimbursement benefit.
Credit monitoring is only a small piece of an effective identity theft plan. While it does provide limited assistance in discovering identity theft, it is approximated that only 21% of identity theft events are discovered with credit monitoring - leaving the other 79% undetected. Thieves are using your personal information to gain employment, receive medical benefits, set up utilities, file fake tax returns, and even commit crimes in your name. None of these events will ever appear on a credit report. Also, credit monitoring alone provides no assistance, restoration, or stolen funds and reimbursement protection when a theft event does occur. If your house is on fire, credit monitoring is like the smoke alarm. It tells you something is wrong, but it doesn’t help put out the fire or build another house.
Fraud alerts and credit freezes can make it more difficult for thieves to open more accounts in your name but they generally focus only on credit-related financial fraud which represents less than half of all occurrences of identity theft. Thieves are using your personal information to gain access to your bank and investment accounts, gain employment, receive medical benefits, set up utilities, file fake tax returns and even commit crimes in your name. None of these events will ever appear on a credit report. Also, fraud alerts and credit freezes alone provides no assistance, restoration, or reimbursement when a theft event does occur.
Yes, if you have money stolen from your 401K or investment accounts, you are covered up to $1 million dollars under our $1 million-dollar stolen funds and reimbursement policy.
Some insurance companies offer very limited coverage by way of an endorsement or rider to their standard policy. Most of these riders provide no proactive monitoring and detection whatsoever. Additionally, these policies typically focus strictly on reimbursing the expenses you incur and only up to $20-30k – not $1 million. Some plans will provide limited recovery assistance consisting of an information packet that includes phone numbers to the credit bureaus, IRS, Social Security Administration, etc. In the end, you will still need to take on all the responsibility and frustration of restoring your identity, and dealing with all of the legal, financial and other personal challenges.
We do not obtain your social security number when you enroll in our service, and you are not required to provide one later on. However, once you are enrolled in our service, we strongly encourage you to complete your account profile which does have a field for your social security number. The reason this is important is because we can monitor your social security number to detect if thieves have obtained it or if they are using it.
ReliaShield will send you an email notification alerting you to login to your account for details on the activity it has detected.
Most of the free coverage that data breach victims receive has very limited benefits. For example, many plans do not offer any form of monitoring and alerts, and they also have low coverage amounts for stolen funds and personal expense reimbursement. Additionally, many of these plans expire after one-year. ReliaShield offers substantially better protection and it lasts as long as you maintain your subscription.
You can obtain identity theft protection from ReliaShield. If your identity was stolen prior to you obtaining coverage, but you do not become aware of it until after you subscribe to our service then you will be covered in full. However, ReliaShield will not cover a prior identity theft event if you were already aware of it (it’s kind of like trying to purchase auto insurance immediately after a car accident – the insurance company will not cover a prior accident).
If you become a victim of identity theft, you will be assigned an expert recovery specialist who will work with you and for you to do everything necessary to fully restore your identity. They will also make sure that you are not held liable for any financial transactions that have taken place in your name, and they will ensure that your credit is restored to the condition it was prior to the event. Additionally, all our plans include $1 million dollars in restoration and reimbursement benefits and we have a 100% recovery success rate.
Preventing identity theft is impossible since your personal information is on file with local, state and federal government entities, healthcare providers, financial institutions and businesses that you interact with. Also, despite claims to the contrary, no company can prevent ALL identity theft. But with ReliaShield’s sophisticated monitoring and alerts; you may be able to prevent becoming a victim, or stop identity theft shortly after it begins to minimize the severity of the damage. Additionally, if you do become a victim, ReliaShield’s team of recovery specialists will take over all of the work to restore your identity. Lastly, you’ll have peace of mind with ReliaShield’s $1 million stolen funds and reimbursement coverage.

Identity theft happens when personal information such as your name, financial information, social security number, or date of birth are used by thieves without your knowledge to commit fraudulent activity. ID Theft continues to be the fastest growing crime in America affecting over 16 million people per year.
A subscription can be cancelled at any time. Monthly subscriptions are cancelled effective prior to the next billing date and protection continues for the remaining days in the existing monthly term. Annual subscriptions are cancelled immediately and given a pro-rated refund.
Credit monitoring is just one feature among more than a dozen identity theft benefits that ReliaShield provides its customers. Credit monitoring services do not provide financial account takeover, non-credit loan monitoring and, most of all, they provide no assistance, restoration, or stolen funds and reimbursement protection if you were to become a victim of identity theft.

Every person with a valid social security number is at risk of becoming a victim of identity theft. Children are oftentimes targeted by identity thieves since they don't detect identity theft until they become adults and apply for credit or a student loan. With a ReliaShield family plan, your spouse and all of your dependent children (up to 10) will be protected from identity theft. Children are covered in the family plan up to the age of 25.
ID Theft continues to be the fastest growing crime in America affecting over 16 million people per year. There are approximately 10 million automobile accidents that occur each year. Much like automobile insurance, identity theft protection is now a necessity.
$16 billion was stolen last year by identity thieves.
Thieves already have hundreds of millions of sensitive personal and financial records of Americans from recent data breaches such as Equifax, Yahoo, eBay, Target, Home Depot and the Federal Government breach (OPM – office of personnel management – current and former employee records).
It can take hundreds of stressful hours for a victim trying to restore and recover their identity, credit history and credit score without the help of the ReliaShield recovery team.
Many financial institutions, but not all, have zero liability policies to limit your risk but there are loopholes and strict requirements that could result with you eating the fraudulent costs. In order to qualify you must adhere to strict reporting requirements such as:
If you notify the bank within 2 business days of the breach, your maximum liability is $50
If you notify the bank within after 2 business days but within 60 days of the breach, your maximum liability is $500
If you notify the bank after 60 days of the breach, you are not covered
Additionally, many financial institutions also require the client to use reasonable care in protecting their card from loss or theft. If you are not promptly reviewing your bank or credit card statements you could be left in a bind. There's a lot of fine print. Each bank has a list of what they will or won't cover. The $1,000,000 stolen funds and personal expense reimbursement insurance from ReliaShield will cover the gaps and limitations and give you the peace of mind you deserve.
